Rainier Developments and HGP has celebrated the topping out of 37 new homes at Charles Green Residences.

Rainier Developments and HGP (a joint-venture between Homes England and Lloyds Bank) has celebrated the topping out of 37 new homes at Charles Green Residences, Tenby Street in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, a major construction milestone.

The project includes new commercial space on the ground floor and seven new homes dedicated to key workers – including those working in the NHS, police, ambulance or fire service.

The development was enabled by funding provided by the West Midlands Combined Authority, administered by Frontier Development Capital. HGP, the Homes England and Lloyds-backed equity investor in the UK Living sector, provided equity funding to support the project.

Designed by BDP Architects, as well as delivering high-quality homes, the Tenby Street development includes newly refurbished space for Charles Green & Sons.

The 200-year old jeweller has moved into custom built premises recently completed on the site – having occupied their original building since the 1970s – enabling the business to continue operating in the Jewellery Quarter.

Construction is set to complete in the winter.

Richard Mees, Chief Executive at Rainier Developments, said: “The Jewellery Quarter is a thriving and historic area of the city, and a sought after location to live and work.

“Alongside the West Midlands Combined Authority, our investment in Tenby Street is delivering the quality new homes this area of the city needs, as well as supporting key workers.

“We have also worked closely with one of the Jewellery Quarter’s most historic businesses to ensure it has premises fit for the future, and can continue to underpin this area’s global reputation for high-quality and skilled manufacturing.”

Kieren Turner-Owen, Associate Director, Frontier Development Capital, said: “We’re immensely proud to be working alongside all parties involved in the funding of Tenby Street.

“The development highlights the beauty of working closely with local organisations to not only allow a historic jewellery manufacturer to stay in the Jewellery Quarter, but to upgrade their premises and also provide new homes.

“We look forward to seeing the project continue on its path to completion.”

Mike Murphy, Investment Director, Housing Growth Partnership, said: “Access to equity investment for SMEs is vital to accelerate the delivery of housing across the UK. This development is a great example of how collaborative investment can unlock high-quality housing in areas with rich heritage. HGP is proud to support a project that not only delivers much-needed homes, including for key workers, but also helps preserve the Jewellery Quarter’s unique character and craftsmanship.”

Liam Smith, Partner at Knight Frank and Head of Regional International Sales, said: “Charles Green Residences represents one of the most exciting residential offerings to come to market in this area of the Jewellery Quarter in recent years. These properties offer the opportunity to enjoy contemporary luxury living within one of Birmingham’s most characterful and well-connected districts.

Each property boasts an impressive specification including contemporary kitchens with high-quality appliances. Special attention has been paid to comfort, with acoustic treatments to floors and walls ensuring a peaceful living environment in this vibrant city location.

The development sits in one of Birmingham’s most fascinating areas, surrounded by dining experiences, coffee shops, bars, boutiques, and galleries. The Colmore Business District, New Street Train Station, and excellent transport links are just a short walk away making it a strong case for Buy to Let investment or an ideal home for young city centre professionals.”
